NORAD: No fighter escorts for Santa this year

NORAD: No fighter escorts for Santa this year

As it has every year since 1955, the North American Aerospace Defense Command will be tracking Santa on his whirlwind journey to deliver presents to all the good little boys and girls around the world.

But he won't be escorted by armed fighter jets.

When NORAD recently launched its yearly online Santa tracker, the site featured a video showing the jolly old elf being escorted by U.S. fighter jets "bristling with missiles," as the Boston Globe put it.

That caused a minor earthquake in the Twitterverse about why Santa would need an armed escort. The answer: Russia.

But a NORAD spokesman confirmed to Military Times that the "missiles" are actually fuel tanks.

Big Pig Jig Smoking in Dooly County This Weekend

If you're looking for some of the best plates of pulled pork in Georgia, the Big Pig Jig is your place.

The Dooly County event starts cooking Friday night and smokes through Sunday.

Directly off I-75 in Vienna, a sea of campers, sheds, and cookers set up shop starting Thursday.

For most of the weekend, it's a big tailgate, a lot of smack-talking about competitors BBQ recipes, music, food and watching football.

Chad Larkin from Madison County says it gets serious when it comes down to cooking and judging.

He's been coming with his father, Butch, and brother, Clint, since he was a child.

Chad's been honing his family recipe, that he learned from his grandfather, since the age of 13.

Daylight Saving This Weekend

WASHINGTON (AP) - It's time to fall back.

Most Americans will be able to get an extra hour of sleep this weekend thanks to the annual shift back to standard time.

The change officially occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, but most people will set their clocks back before heading to bed Saturday night.

Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories don't have to change since they do not observe daylight saving time.

Public safety officials say this is also a good time to put a new battery in the smoke alarm, no matter where you live.

Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time March 9.

Front Row Renews Deal with David Ragan for 2014

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Front Row Motorsports will bring back drivers David Gilliland and David Ragan in 2014.

Gilliland will be back for a fifth season with Front Row, and Ragan will be returning for his third year with the team. Ragan earned Front Row its first victory in May at Talladega, where he and Gilliland used a dramatic last-lap dash to the checkered flag to sweep the front row.

Ragan is currently ranked 26th in the Sprint Cup standings and Gilliland is 29th, and it's the highest in the championship standings Front Row has been in its five years of full-time competition.

Ragan will again drive the No. 34 next season and Gilliland will drive the No. 38.
