US News & World Report Says Dooly and Macon County Schools Need Improvement

How do high schools in Dooly and Macon Counties stack up against others in Central Georgia? According to the latest US News & World Report high school rankings, if this was a report card it would say, “needs improvement.”

The news was slightly better for Macon County High School than Dooly County High School but both fell below the state averages for “College Readiness,” math proficiency and English proficiency. However, that sounds worse than it may actually be.

Macon County posted a 9.1 for “College Readiness” and passing rates of 84-percent in English and 86-percent in Math on the state’s exit exams. Dooly County students registered 8.4 for “College Readiness,” 79-percent for English and 87-percent in Math. “College Readiness” is a measure that US News & World Report determines by the percentage of students who took and passed Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
