Dooly Co. Youth 'OK' After Shooting Accident | News
A family member says a Dooly County youth is doing "OK" in a local hospital after a shooting accident.
The accident reportedly happened on Halifax Road in Dooly County around 8:30 this morning.
A step uncle told 13WMAZ's Katelyn Heck that the boy, 12, and a friend, 13, were playing with a gun in their living room when it went off.
He said the bullet broke one rib and skinned his liver. The boy is reportedly at Crisp Regional Hospital, the step uncle said.
Dooly County Sheriff's deputy Randy Lamberth said his department is not investigating the shooting further and do not plan to press charges against the parents.
Lamberth called the gun was a "high-powered rifle." The step uncle said it was a .223.
Melissa Cummings with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told 13WMAZ that the incident was not hunting related. DNR had an investigator on the scene with sheriff's deputies.
