Macon & NCHD Promote Healthy Living

Macon & NCHD Promote Healthy Living

The month of September has officially been named Georgia SHAPE Month, and residents throughout Georgia are encouraged to get in SHAPE by participating in free or discounted events and programs throughout Georgia.  In support of Georgia SHAPE Month, Macon Mayor Robert Reichert is partnering with the North Central Health District (NCHD) to issue daily challenges to Middle Georgians during the month of September.

The NCHD and the Mayor’s Office will utilize Twitter and Facebook to issue daily challenges such as: exercise at least 10 minutes, no fried foods today, and drink 8 glasses of water.  The goal of the challenge is for Middle Georgians to begin to incorporate small, healthy changes that will eventually become lifelong habits.

Ten Reasons To Declutter and Organize Your Home BEFORE You Put It On The Market

1.  It makes a great first impression on the buyer. Usually that’s all you get.

2.  Clutter makes buyers think that the home will need a lot of work.

3.  “White” space in closets and drawers as well as on kitchen counters has great appeal.

4.  Your treasures may be distracting to buyers. Packing away collections can make your space more attractive.

5.  Buyers want to create their own memories in the home. Removing family photos and memorabilia gives the buyers a clean slate.

6.  By getting rid of the “noise” in the home you can highlight the house’s strong points.

7.  When you clear out excess accessories and furniture, you allow buyers to mentally “move in.”

8.  Decluttering and cleaning your home can lead to a more than 400% return on your investment according to Homegain.com.

9.  There are fewer things for you to clean and maintain while your house in on the market.

10.  You will save time and money by not having to pack, move and unpack unneeded items.

When in doubt, be ruthless with your decluttering. It will pay off in the end!

Organizing | Controlling Your Paper Chaos

Recently a friend told me that her mail and school papers had gotten out of control. She asked for suggestions to help her get control again. My suggestion to her was to create a command center.

Set up your command center in a centralized location such as your kitchen. You will need four basic things:

- a basket or bin to act as a temporary holding spot for mail and papers

- an action file

- a trash can, and

- shredder.

Many people also add a family calendar to their command center to help keep everything one track.

Keeping Your Digital Pictures Safe

Keeping Your Digital Pictures Safe

Last week I was touching base with a client to see how her summer was going and she had a horror story to tell me. During a quick 20-minute trip to take her daughter to camp, their home was broken into. Among the things the thieves took was their computer. The most precious and heartwrenching loss of all was the loss of their pictures and videos from the last 4-5 months that had not yet been backed up. Those can never be retrieved or recreated.

What can you do to preserve your precious memories, specifically those digital pictures? A couple of quick and easy steps can ease your mind and I advocate multiple backup systems. You can never be too careful with your pictures.

What is Your Legacy?

What is Your Legacy?

I have to admit that I don’t often think about what my legacy will be. Let’s face it, I’m relatively young and it seems like that legacy thing is so far off. But in reality every day I am creating and developing the gifts that I will leave my children and the world. In my family we try not to put so much emphasis on the stuff as we do the memories and the family history.

However in some families, the stuff is the legacy and I’m not talking about antiques and heirlooms. I have so many people talk to me about their homes like this, “My house is packed the rafters with three generations of stuff – mine, my parents AND my grandparents.” This statement makes me sad in so many ways. First I’m sure the grandparents wouldn’t want their grandchildren living in a memorial pile of their stuff. Also the guilt and pressure of the child feels as having to be the steward of the stuff that they generally don’t really want.
