Flint River Hospital Closing Emergency Room | Families
Montezuma's Flint River Hospital plans to close its emergency room Sunday.
A news release from the hospital says they'll convert the emergency department into a crisis-stabilization unit and also establish an urgent-care unit.
The hospital's news release says changes in health care are forcing them to adopt a more efficient business model. That includes concentrating on specialized services like substance-abuse and mental-health treatment.
"The volume of business in a rural community is insufficient to support a stand alone 50-bed general hospital," said the release from hospital CEO Philip H. Eastman III.
The hospital also serves people who live in other small counties like Schley, Taylor, and Dooly - which also had an emergency room closing in Vienna.
