CGTC Board of Directors Chair elected

Houston County retired superintendent was also elected to the vice chair position for 2014-2015.

Twiggs County resident and retired educator, Sarah Hawthorne, was named as the chair of CGTC's Board of Directors.

According to a release, she also served as the vice chair of the Board in the past year, when CGTC and MGTC merged.

She'll serve a one-year term.

CGTC's board of directors is comprised of a group of business leaders from the eleven counties CGTC serves in Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Dooly, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam and Twiggs counties.

The Georgia State Patrol cordially invites you to attend a Road Dedication Ceremony for Fallen Trooper Keith "Bull" Stewart. On April 27, 1991, Trooper Stewart was answering a call to assist an officer. While traveling on State Route 215 near Pitts, Georgia, Trooper Stewart lost control of his patrol car and collided with a tree. He passed away at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Hazlehurst pediatrician named to Deal's Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee members

Governor Nathan Deal named a Hazlehurst pediatrician to his Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee.

Announced today, Dr.  Angela Highbaugh-Battle joins 14 other members on the committee to "identify needs of the rural hospital community and provide potential solutions," according to a release.

She's one of two central Georgians named to the committee, along with Senator David Lucas.

UGA extension releases cotton weed control guidelines

The Dooly County UGA extension has released programs for Controlling Glyphosate Resistant Palmer Amaranth in Cotton.

In a blog post, Jay Porter says it's important for "not just the present, but for the future of weed control in cotton."

Porter warns that not closely following the guidelines could prevent cotton growth in the future.

That's from 2-5 p.m. at Harmon Park in Unadilla.

Kids will be able to enjoy face-painting, balloon-twising and the Easter Bunny.

The 10th Annual Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale happens Friday and Saturday along US Hwy 341 from Barnesville to Jesup, GA.
