Vienna Man Dies After Farm Accident

Vienna volunteer firefighter Lee Harris Jr. died Saturday after a farm accident sent him to the burn center in Augusta last week.

 

“He was a good firefighter. He was a farmer, he loved livestock and getting children involved in livestock, and he loved his family very much," Assistant Chief Kenny Calhoun of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department says.

"He leaves behind a father, mother, wife and 2 children, a son and daughter.“

His funeral will be on Tuesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at Vienna First Baptist Church. (See Lee Harris Jr.'s full obituary here)

Lee Harris, Jr. was working on a piece of farm equipment Monday afternoon when he got sprayed with fuel and it ignited.

He was immediately rushed to the Medical Center of Central Georgia and then transported to the burn center in Augusta.

Vienna Man "Stable, but Critical" After Farm Accident

A Vienna volunteer firefighter is in "stable, but critical" condition after he was badly burned in a farm accident, Assistant Fire Chief Kenny Calhoun says.

Lee Harris, Jr. was working on a piece of farm equipment Monday afternoon when he got sprayed with fuel and it ignited.

He was immediately rushed to the Medical Center of Central Georgia and then transported to the burn center in Augusta.

Over 70 percent of his body was consumed.

Calhoun says the accident was not related to work with the fire department.

Macon County Raises Over $50K for Relay for Life

Macon County raised $52,569 with 233 participants for Relay for Life 2012.

That's according to the Relay for Life website.

Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. 


Macon County's Relay for LIfe took place April 20 at the Old Gym in Ogelthorpe.

REYNOLDS/WARNER ROBINS/UPATOI – Flint Energies turns 75 years old today, according to Sr. Vice President Jimmy Autry. The not-for-profit member-owned electric cooperative received its charter from the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) on Apr. 23, 1937.

“Today brings back a lot of great memories,” said Autry. “But the most important memory is that of members working together to create a lasting organization to meet their own needs.”
