My Teacher is Tops - Deborah Green | Education
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Deborah Green, a Montezuma native and 6th grade teacher at Macon County Middle School is this week's "My Teacher is Tops" winner.
In nominating their teacher, students Kaley Williams and Hailey Pulido said Green has an ability to get all students involved, even those not interested in school, and said "There is no other teacher I would rather have, she makes school something to look forward to."
Junior Journalist Kayla Singletary was on hand to surprise Ms. Green with her award in the cafeteria. And after hearing the news, Macon County Schools' Superintendent Dr. Carolyn Medlock also came by the school to congratulate Green personally.
"I've always wanted to impact young people's lives and today is a special day for me because it makes me feel like I have done just that," said Green.
Green has been teaching for nine years, and says it was important for her to teach in the community she grew up in. After working for a hospital in Americus, Green says she realized teaching was her true calling.
She says she plans on hanging the award on the wall as a reminder to her students that if the youngest of nine children in a small town could grow up to become a top teacher, her students can do anything.
"No matter what you do in life, just know, it's not where you start, but where you end," she told her students.
