Man Shot to Death Outside Oglethorpe Birthday Party

Authorities in Oglethorpe are investigating the shooting death of 24-year-old Lance Harris, Jr., who was attending a birthday party at a community center in Macon County.

Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent Trebor Randle confirmed the GBI has taken over the case.

She said it happened around 2 a.m. Sunday outside the C. Ethel Community Center on Highway 26 west.

She added that no charges have been filed but some suspects are in custody.

This morning, crime scene tape marked off a wooded area near the center and a car was parked on the property.

Suspect Arrested After Montezuma Man Found Dead

Suspect Arrested After Montezuma Man Found Dead

Montezuma police found the body of a man in his home this weekend, and arrested a man who has a history of violence against the elderly.

According to a news release from Montezuma Police Chief Eric Finch, officers responded to a call and found 56 year old John Thomas Hubbard dead in his home.

After talking with neighbors, officers obtained a search warrant for the home of a possible suspect in Hubbard's death.

Officers found evidence at the home of 26 year old Mortez Javar McKenzie that linked him to the crime scene.

They arrested McKenzie on a warrant violation, but Chief Finch expects more charges this week.

Finch says McKenzie has a pending court date for a 2009 armed robbery of another elderly citizen.

An autopsy will be performed to determine Hubbard's cause of death.
