Flint Energies opens new headquarters facilities in Taylor County

REYNOLDS/WARNER ROBINS/UPATOI/PERRY – In a process that began in 2003, the Flint Energies Board of Directors is taking the next step toward building a new headquarters  in Reynolds to better serve its members.

“Flint’s commitment to rural and middle Georgia goes all the way back to 1937,” said Chief Executive Officer Bob Ray. “We affirm that commitment by building facilities for the next generations of cooperative members.”  Furthermore, Flint continues a commitment to the community where it all began as “Taylor County EMC”.  The City of Reynolds stands as the geographic center of the co-op’s service territory that stretches from the Museum of Robins Air Force Base through the electric system at Fort Benning Army Post.

Sheriff issues scam warning

Sheriff Bittick warns Monroe Countians about a scam making its way through Georgia.

He says scammers have found a new way to take victims' money.

A new scam is making its way through Georgia and Sheriff John Cary Bittick is warning all citizens not to fall victim to this most recent scam.

As with most scams, the latest involves the victim turning money over to a stranger. But since most victims have learned the hard way that money shouldn’t be wired or transferred to an unknown bank account or banking institution, scammers have found a new way to take victims’ money.

The UGA Extension Office made the 2014 Georgia Soybean Production Guide available online.

Experts believe the optimal period for planting soybeans in Georgia is between May 10 and June 10.

Unadilla welcomes its new City Hall facility with a Grand Opening Saturday, May 10.

According to a release, the event happens at noon with a ribbon cutting and tour.

Hazlehurst pediatrician named to Deal's Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee members

Governor Nathan Deal named a Hazlehurst pediatrician to his Rural Hospital Stabilization Committee.

Announced today, Dr.  Angela Highbaugh-Battle joins 14 other members on the committee to "identify needs of the rural hospital community and provide potential solutions," according to a release.

She's one of two central Georgians named to the committee, along with Senator David Lucas.

UGA extension releases cotton weed control guidelines

The Dooly County UGA extension has released programs for Controlling Glyphosate Resistant Palmer Amaranth in Cotton.

In a blog post, Jay Porter says it's important for "not just the present, but for the future of weed control in cotton."

Porter warns that not closely following the guidelines could prevent cotton growth in the future.
